Content Marketing for B2B Companies That Actually Sells

Most B2B content marketing produces content. It does not produce pipeline. Here is how to close the gap.

B2B content marketing has a volume problem. Companies produce blog posts, whitepapers, webinars, and social media content at scale, but very little of it connects to a buying decision. The content exists to check a marketing box, not to move a prospect closer to a purchase.

The Intent Gap

The gap between content production and pipeline generation is intent. Most B2B content is written for awareness — broad topics that attract traffic but do not address specific buying questions. The content that generates pipeline addresses the problems the buyer is trying to solve right now, in the language they use to describe those problems.

Bottom-of-Funnel First

The counterintuitive move is to start with bottom-of-funnel content. Case studies, ROI calculations, implementation guides, and comparison pages target people who are already evaluating solutions. These pages convert at a much higher rate than blog posts about industry trends. Build the bottom first, then work up.

Distribution Matters More Than Production

A great piece of content that no one sees produces nothing. Distribution — email sequences, LinkedIn posts, paid promotion to targeted audiences, and SEO optimization — is at least as important as the content itself. At Growth7, we allocate as much effort to distribution as we do to creation.

Measuring Content Against Pipeline

Every piece of content should be traceable to pipeline. Which content assets did a closed-won client consume before they reached out? Which pages do qualified leads visit most frequently? That data tells you what to produce more of and what to stop wasting time on.
